John Deere announced the introduction of the customer-inspired 180G LC hydraulic excavator on April 10, 2012. This new model provides contractors with a larger mid-size solution that is complete with an Interim Tier4-certified engine.

According to a company release, the new model joins the popular G-Series line of hydraulic excavators, which continue the John Deere tradition of combining power, reliability and productivity on jobsites around the world.

"The 180G LC model provides small local contractors, water and sewer contractors, and those who dig basements and pools a versatile, maneuverable, and IT4-certified excavator," said Mark Wall, product marketing manager for excavators, John Deere Construction & Forestry. "This 18 ton model offers operators a machine with more reach, digging depth, lift capacity, and arm and bucket dig force."

The new excavator comes with a rugged, 121-horsepower, field-proven IT4/EU Stage IIIB John Deere PowerTech engine, as it meets rigid emissions regulations and enables operators to work in non-attainment areas, according to the release.

Construction Equipment reported that the new excavator is different that what many construction crews are familiar with, as the John Deere equipment that was used previously is likely much noisier. The new cooling system runs only when needed, reducing noise, fuel consumption and operating costs.
