FEATURED NEWS STORY

Antique John Deere tractor named as feature of the month in calender

A tractor owned by Tom Crawford, a resident of Cashiers, North Carolina, was named the tractor of the month in the Classic Farm Tractor Calender, according to Ag Web.

The news source reported that Crawford's 1929 John Deere GP tractor was selected due to its historic value and the pristine condition that it is currently in. The calender is currently in its 21st year of production, as the world-famous publication is available online or by mail order.

According to Ag Web, the tractor was recently restored by Crawford, as he was able to work on the used farm equipment during his days off from work.

He told the news source that the "engine was overhauled; otherwise it was a basket case," and that he needed to replace certain parts. Despite the work, Crawford enjoyed tinkering with the classic tractor.

The John Deere GP tractor was a staple of the agricultural industry in the 1930s, as the machine was designed as a row crop tractor, with the fixed front axle straddling three rows, according to Tractor Data. A total of 30,535 GP models were built, and several other versions of the farm equipment were made by the agricultural giant.
